The National Asian Pacific American Women's Forum (NAPAWF) is the only national, multi-issue Asian and Pacific Islander (AAPI) women's advocacy organization in the United States. We are building a movement to advance social justice and human rights for AAPI women and girls in the U.S. We implement our vision by increasing the leadership, power and visibility of AAPI women and girls through five strategies: base-building and leadership development; research and public education; government affairs advocacy, grassroots multi-issue organizing; and strategic collaborations. Founded in 1996, we are a growing and dynamic organization with staff in four cities and local chapters in fifteen cities


The NAPAWF Chief of Staff reports directly to the ED and provides management oversight, guidance, and direction to the Finance and Administration team. As the right hand of the ED, the Chief of Staff will be a thought partner to the ED and the Board to strengthen and develop the internal and external capacity and infrastructure of the organization. The position holder will act as a strategist, project manager, problem solver, and executive manager. Serving as a liaison between the ED and the Senior Leadership Team, the COS will help develop plans to meet organization goals, drive operational initiatives forward, and ensure effective cross functional communications and collaboration. This position leverages the position holder's broad visibility into the organization to identify challenges, develop solutions, be an integral part of executing critical workflows, and managing the ED's bandwidth and activities.


Organization and Time Management

  • Ensure timely and effective completion of projects and initiatives of the ED.
  • Strategically respond to and prioritize the high-volume demand for the ED's time, ensuring that the ED focuses on the most impactful areas to drive organizational growth and impact.
  • Ensure the ED's time is used efficiently. Review issues in which the ED should be aware and frame/position ideas to resolve the problem/mitigate the risk.
  • Implement ED's goals into actionable business priorities and workstreams for the organization.
  • Develop and oversee the organization's Finance and Administration operations including Finance, HR, IT and Office Administration.
  • Work closely with the Executive Assistant to ensure the appropriate management of the ED's calendar to meet all priorities.
  • Manage projects for the ED, ensuring deadlines are hit and appropriate steps taken. Help keep the ED on track, regularly report status, and help lighten workload.
  • Improve current processes and coordinate organizational procedures for optimized efficiency and productivity
  • Develop and assemble organizational annual goals, measure progress, and provide updates to stakeholders.

Relationship Management and Partnerships

  • Ensure alignment, coordination, and collaboration among relevant internal and external stakeholders and, when such alignment is absent, establish and implement mitigating approaches.
  • Develop strategic plan for external engagement of the ED.
  • Support the ED with strategic engagement with the Board of Directors.

Staff Leadership and Development

  • Serve as the liaison between the ED and the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) to ensure consistent communication with the ED and effective decision-making at the proper time.
  • Package high level briefs and organizational data to facilitate executive team decision making and for presentation to staff.
  • Provide guidance and advice to the ELT and other key stakeholders, focusing on the underlying causes of issues, identifying blockers to progress, and creatively developing alternative means of resolving problems and making progress
  • Coordinate activities, set agendas, and summarize deliverables for Executive Team meetings.
  • Drive the organization's decision-making process through data gathering, analysis of information, and assigning responsibility and accountability to the Executive Leadership Team.
  • Assist Executive Leadership Team in decision-making and initiative implementation.
  • Oversees the selection, development, and management of qualified staff for the Finance and Administration department, assigning clear roles and responsibilities, providing effective supervision to ensure efficient operations.

Program and Project Management

  • Serve as a subject matter expert, handling inquiries and developing action plans to address them, and ensuring the preparation and dissemination of communications
  • Lead, execute, and oversee projects that typically require cross-functional collaboration and resource allocation. Provide project planning and management for the ED's office projects and initiatives.
  • Maintain continuous lines of communication, keeping the ED informed of all critical issues.
  • Oversee preparation for all Board of Director meetings
  • Lead cross-functional strategic initiatives
  • Prepare and track action items from board meetings.


  • Represent the ED in meetings, by email, and phone calls with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Represent the ED with external stakeholders, board members, public officials, and other partners in person and in writing.


  • At least 10 years' experience as an Executive leader and manager (nonprofit/civic engagement, women centered and or social justice organization experience strongly preferred)
  • Knowledge of and experience with and commitment to issues affecting the AAPI community
  • Experience planning, leading and executing strategic initiatives, leading change and promoting strong collaboration.
  • Excellent project management skills and history of successful execution of project goals
  • Analytic, strategic and structured thinker with entrepreneurial drive.
  • Track record of organizing and directing multiple teams and departments
  • Experience in driving effective decision-making processes and developing proven internal management systems that drive consistent results.
  • Experience in managing special projects for an organization, helping senior leaders see where there are linkages across the work, and creating operational efficiencies and new processes along the way.
  • Ability to build strong and sustainable relationships and the capability to interact within all levels of the organization and with external constituents.
  • Ability to effectively influence and communicate cross-functionally with all levels of management with exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Results Oriented: A strong focus on execution.

  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills.


The salary for this position is $140,000-$170,000 commensurate with experience. A highly competitive benefits package includes a 401k plan, medical, dental, and vision insurance. NAPAWF's medical plan is covered by NAPAWF at 100% for employee and dependents with no out of pocket costs, including prescription drugs costs. Qualified dependents may also be covered. NAPAWF also offers full-time employees 15 days of vacation in the first year, sick leave, flexible spending program options and personal/family leave as well as paid vacation between December 25th and January 2nd of each year.
